Fes Airport Expansion Project

Morocco’s Office of National Airports has completed 60% of a planned expansion of the Fez, Morocco Airport.  This expansion will see the passenger terminal increase its current capacity of 500,000 passengers per year to the level of three million passengers. This new 26,000m2 passenger terminal will be working at full capacity in 2014.  This expansion will also increase the number of boarding gates as the current two are not enough. This expansion is part of a grander plan to increase infrastructure to accommodate planned increases in tourism.  As you can see below, the number of passengers arriving in Fez, Morocco has been significantly increase in recent years justifying a need for this additional terminal.

Passenger arrival has been on a constant increase over the last three reporting periods.

Year 2007        333,929 passengers
Year 2008        409,260 passengers
Year 2010        743,018 passengers

This new terminal capacity will be an enticement for other airlines to schedule direct flights to Fez Morocco.  This strategy fits well with the Moroccan government objective to increase  tourism.  Morocco is targeting to have infrastructure in place to accommodate 20 million tourists by 2020.  With the addition of this additional terminal, Fez Morocco is building for a strong future of increased tourism.
